Classes and Objectives.

Jazz Band

  • Perform at least two evening concerts.

  • Rehearse and Perform a repertoire of music literature up to, at least, a grade 2 music level.

  • Listen to performances with proper audience etiquette.

  • Apply skills learned in the period classes to the performing groups.

  • Improvisation.

- Band rehearsal is every Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday morning starting at 7:00am.

* Student musicians should be dropped off at the front door

between 6:50-6:55am.

Grade 6 Band

  • Apply and Build on the skills learned in the elementary school band program.

  • Learn fundamentals of scales by playing on their primary instrument.

  • Practice sight-reading to improve playing ability.

  • Perform individual scale assessments for feedback using a performance rubric.

  • Listen to classmates assessments and formal/informal performances with proper audience etiquette.

  • Make connections to other areas of learning/life.

  • Apply skills learned in sectional time to band.

 

* When appropriate, evening presentations in the auditorium. (Not more than 2 per school year).

Flute

Grade 7 Band

  • Apply and Build on skills learned in grade 6 band.

  • Expand scale knowledge on their primary instrument and gain feedback through the performance rubric.

  • Practice sight-reading to improve playing ability.

  • Reinforce skills of ensemble playing through preparation of various music literature.

  • Make connections to other areas of learning/life.

  • Apply skills learned in sectional time to band.

  • Levels

Grade 8 Band

  • Apply and Build on skills learned in grade 7 band.

    • Expand scale knowledge on their primary instrument and gain feedback through the performance rubric.

Sectional Lessons

  • Weekly.

  • Rotating schedule by quarter.

  • Starts the 3rd week of school.

  • Same class missed, at most, 4 times per quarter.

  • Your teacher has the final say if you come or not.

  • Attendance & Grades must be in good standing.

  • Any work missed must be made up on your own time.

Band Beginners

  • Done after school.

  • Any 6th grade student that would like to begin playing a band instrument at the start of the new school year must schedule after school lessons, with Mr. Nelson-Unczur, before being allowed to sign up for the school day band.

  • At the completion of one quarter, we will determine if entering the school day band period is the next step.
